The Honourable Madeleine Meilleur, Minister of Culture, presents award to Nancy Leindecker, CEO of Bruce Mines and Plummer Additional Union Public Library at OLA Conference in Toronto, February 2006

The Bruce Mines and Plummer Additional Union Public Library has won the Minister of Culture’s Award for Innovation. The CEO was presented the award at the annual Librarian’s Super Conference, in Toronto on February 2, 2006. The award is for the Historical Indexing Project, which collaborates the historical collections of 8 area partners. The project is a digital listing of artifacts and historical documents, which can be used to research history of the local area and assist with genealogical searches for family records. Demonstrations of how to use our new database are provided at the library free of charge. From the listings on the database, researchers can contact the partnering agencies to obtain copies of the records they desire. Please keep in mind that many of the collections are only available seasonally, and are accessed by volunteers. It is advisable to forward a letter to the organization, with your request of information, to allow them sufficient time to collect the material. You may be charged a minimal fee for their services. The collections listed in the database are of the following community partners; the Town of Bruce Mines, the Bruce Mines Museum and Mine Shaft, the Royal Canadian Legion, Bruce Mines United Church, Peterson’s Lighthouse, Plummer Additional Township, the Rydal Bank Historical Society and the Bruce Mines and Plummer Additional Union Public Library. Ontario Library Services-North, has recognized our Library for its efforts with the Historical Indexing Project. An award for Excellence in Community Capacity Building was presented to the Library in 2005
